Bed Recommendations
Guidelines for choosing a Mattress Foundation
How to Choose the Right Bed for Your Latex Mattress
When it comes to beds, a bigger size is always better! It is simply more comfortable and gives you more room to spread out, so we would always advise you to opt for as big a bed as space permits. When combined with a high-quality latex mattress, it is the perfect recipe for a good night’s sleep.
All our mattresses are compatible with any durable and high-quality bed platform that provides adequate support, such as a solid top divan, a sprung edge divan, a solid slatted base, or a sprung slatted base. A latex mattress will feel slightly firmer when placed on a solid base compared to a slatted one, which may affect the density you opt for.
Additionally, it is essential to ensure that the gaps across the slats measure between 2 and 3 inches wide (5cm to 7.5cm). Using the mattress on a slatted bed with a greater gap could cause damage and invalidate its guarantee. Each product has specific details about individual mattress requirements and recommendations available on the website.
SOLID TOP DIVAN
ADVANTAGES
Solid top divans provide a firm and stable foundation, which can enhance the performance of a latex mattress by maintaining proper spinal alignment and support. The key features are as follows:
- Constructed from robust materials, solid top divans are built to last, making them a reliable investment when paired with a high-quality latex mattress
- Their simple, modern appearance allows them to blend seamlessly with various bedroom styles, offering a clean and stylish look
- Unlike sprung bases, solid top divans do not sag over time, ensuring consistent support for your latex mattress throughout its lifespan
- With fewer components, solid top divans are easier to clean and maintain compared to other base types.
- Solid top divans are often available at a more affordable price than other options, offering excellent value for those looking for a reliable foundation.
LIMITATIONS
- Solid top divans do not provide the same level of shock absorption as sprung bases, which may result in a less cushioned feel, particularly for softer mattresses
- They may not distribute weight as evenly as some other options, which could lead to discomfort for certain individuals, especially those with specific health concerns
- Solid tops may restrict airflow to the mattress compared to bases with slatted or sprung designs, potentially affecting temperature regulation and moisture control
- Some latex mattresses, particularly those that require a more flexible base, may not perform optimally on a solid top divan, leading to reduced comfort and support
- They can be quite heavy, making them more challenging to move or reposition within the bedroom, which can be inconvenient for those who frequently rearrange their space
In summary, solid top divans offer optimum support and durability for latex mattresses, making them a practical choice. However, buyers should be mindful of potential issues such as lack of breathability and compatibility concerns to ensure a comfortable sleeping experience.
SPRUNG EDGE DIVAN BASE
ADVANTAGES
A sprung edge divan remains one of the most popular types of mattress foundation available today, offering both comfort and style. With its built-in springs, a sprung edge divan provides superb ventilation for your mattress, making it a far better choice than placing your mattress directly on the floor or on a solid wood base.
Many people are unaware of the diverse benefits associated with proper ventilation, including:
- A cooler night’s sleep and less sweating at night
- Prevention of mould and mildew growth inside the mattress
- Protection from mould or mildew forming on the mattress surface or on the floor beneath
Beyond functionality, a sprung edge divan enhances the appearance of your bed. By lifting the mattress off the floor, it adds height, which can make getting in and out of bed easier and creates a more refined look for your bedroom.
Another advantage of sprung edge divans is that they are among the more budget-friendly mattress foundation options.
LIMITATIONS
- Sprung edge divans may not be the best choice for everyone, as they don’t provide the same level of support as a solid foundation
- Many box springs are not designed to support high-quality, premium mattresses effectively
- Springs in the base may add slight motion transfer, which may compromise the excellent motion isolation of latex mattresses
- For weightier options, such as natural latex, box springs can lead to sagging or dipping. Over time, a sprung edge base may sag in certain areas, affecting the overall support and potentially reducing mattress durability
- The combined height of the divan base and latex mattress may make the bed feel less stable for those preferring a lower profile
Overall, a sprung edge divan brings a mix of style, comfort, and functionality, making it an excellent option for bedrooms.
However, keeping in mind that since certain designs are constructed with materials that are cheaper, the price could occasionally translate into lower quality.
FIRM EDGE POCKETED BASE
ADVANTAGES
Firm edge divan bases can be used in conjunction with latex mattresses, which are designed to provide the ultimate comfort. The base is crucial to maintaining the performance and durability of the mattress and will function perfectly with all our latex and sprung mattresses.
- Provides extra support along mattress edges, reducing sagging. This feature is especially beneficial for those who frequently sit or sleep near the edge of the bed.
- Enhances stability, especially for softer or more flexible mattresses. Great for users who prefer a firmer sleeping surface or have mobility concerns.
- Minimises motion transfer, ideal for light sleepers or those sharing a bed.
- Increases mattress longevity by providing balanced support across the bed.
- Improves breathability, allowing better air circulation compared to solid bases. This can be especially advantageous for heavier mattresses that benefit from a robust foundation.
LIMITATIONS
- Firm edge pocketed bases lack the softer, more flexible feel of sprung edge bases, potentially affecting those who prefer a more cushioned or yielded foundation
- Firm or dense mattresses may not pair well with firm edge bases, reducing their natural conforming qualities
- Due to sturdy construction, they are heavier and less portable, making them difficult to move or reposition
- Due to added support features and construction quality, these bases are more expensive than standard divans or solid wood foundations
- Designed for functionality, they may limit aesthetic variety compared to other divan styles
In summary, firm edge pocketed bases offer strong edge support, stability, and durability, ideal for those who prefer a firmer, more structured sleep experience. However, they may not provide the cushioning some people enjoy and can be bulkier and costlier than simpler foundations.
SOLID SLATTED BASE
ADVANTAGES
A solid slatted bed is a type of mattress foundation that features closely spaced wooden slats secured within a sturdy frame. This design provides a firm and stable surface for mattresses, offering excellent support while promoting proper spinal alignment. The slats allow for some breathability, which helps to maintain a comfortable sleeping temperature. Solid slatted beds are known for their durability and minimal maintenance, making them a practical choice for various bedroom styles. While they provide strong support, mattresses on solid slatted bases may feel firmer compared to those placed on more flexible foundations, like sprung slatted bases.
- Solid slatted bases deliver a firm and stable foundation, providing strong support for a range of mattress types, including latex options. This helps maintain proper spinal alignment and can alleviate discomfort throughout the night.
- Although solid slatted bases offer the same airflow level as sprung slatted versions, helping to keep the mattress cool and pleasant.
- Made from sturdy materials, solid slatted bases are built to last, making them a worthwhile investment due to their durability.
- The sleek, minimalist style of solid slatted bases suits a variety of bedroom aesthetics, fitting seamlessly with both contemporary and classic decor
- Solid slatted bases are easy to clean and repair
LIMITATIONS
- A solid slatted base offers support and breathability for latex mattresses, but it typically results in a firmer sleeping surface, potentially not suitable for those who prefer a softer feel
- Solid slatted bases do not offer the same level of shock absorption as sprung designs, which may lead to a less cushioned experience, particularly for individuals who move during the night
- Although they provide good support, solid slatted bases may not distribute weight as evenly as other bases, potentially creating pressure points for some sleepers
- Solid slatted bases can be quite heavy, making them more challenging to move or reposition within the bedroom, which can be inconvenient for those who frequently rearrange their space
Solid slatted bases deliver robust support and long-lasting durability, making them a sound option for latex mattresses. That said, buyers should be mindful of the firmer feel and check that it aligns with their mattress needs to ensure a restful sleep experience.
SPRUNG SLATTED BASE
ADVANTAGES
Sprung slatted bases are mattress foundations designed to enhance comfort and support by incorporating flexible wooden slats within a sturdy frame. Additionally, the breathability of the sprung slatted base complements the inherent ventilation of latex, allowing for improved airflow. This prevents overheating and moisture buildup, which can be particularly advantageous for those who tend to sleep warm. The combination of the latex mattress’s resilience and the adaptability of the sprung slatted base creates a balanced sleeping surface that promotes proper spinal alignment and enhances comfort.
- These bases significantly increase airflow around the mattress, helping to regulate temperature and reduce moisture buildup.
- The system adapts to body weight and movements, providing enhanced comfort. This dynamic support can alleviate pressure points, making it suitable for various sleep positions.
- Compared to solid bases, sprung slatted bases offer superior shock absorption, contributing to overall comfort.
- They are built to withstand wear and tear without compromising structural integrity, adding long-term value to your investment.
- Many sprung slatted bases come with adjustable firmness settings, allowing users to personalise their sleeping experience to match their individual preferences.
A sprung slatted base creates a harmonious pairing with latex mattresses, enhancing their natural benefits and overall performance. Together, they offer a tailored sleep experience that caters to individual preferences, making the combination an excellent choice for a wide range of sleepers.
LIMITATIONS
- While sprung slatted bases provide excellent support, mattresses placed on them, particularly latex ones, may feel softer compared to those on a solid slatted base. This can be a disadvantage for individuals who prefer a firmer sleeping surface
- Flexibility of slats may cause movement, affecting stability
- Depending on the construction, some sprung slatted bases may have weight limits that could affect their performance with heavier mattresses
- Setting up sprung slatted bases can be more complex than solid bases, requiring careful alignment of the slats during installation
Sprung slatted bases offer significant advantages, particularly in enhancing the breathability of latex mattresses and providing flexible support. However, buyers should consider the potential for a softer feel and compatibility with their mattress preferences before making a final decision.
ADJUSTABLE BEDS
Adjustable foundations give you significant control over your sleep experience and have changed the way people rest. However, it is crucial to select the right mattress to pair with an adjustable foundation, as purchasing an incompatible one could result in an impractical sleeping arrangement. Investing in a mattress intended for adjustable bases will provide you with outstanding support and remarkable versatility.
All of them possess incredible features that can boost the quality of sleep, including:
- Multiple lifting positions
- Height-adjustable
- Suitable for most modern headboards and bedframes
- Silently operated raising systems
- Remote control
- Bluetooth connectivity
- USB ports.
Many adjustable foundations offer split options, allowing each side to be adjusted independently or both sides to raise to the same height. This individual adjustability is essential for couples with different sleep preferences.
Furthermore, adjustable beds offer considerable relief for patients experiencing pressure and pain associated with:
- Reflux
- Osteoarthritis
- Blood circulation
- Joint mobility
- Asthma
- Respiratory system
- Apnoea
- Upper body and neck
- Lower back
People suffering from any of these conditions can benefit from using an adjustable foundation.
LIMITATIONS
All 100% latex and latex pocket-sprung mattresses can be used with adjustable beds. A mattress made entirely of latex, however, will be superior and more suitable than one made of latex and springs, as it is very flexible and can bend effortlessly.
Please note that the Latex Coir and Latex Coir Dual Comfort mattresses are NOT compatible with Adjustable bed bases. They simply do not respond effectively to the adjustments made by adjustable foundations.
