FAQs

Below are a series of questions.

Q. What type of latex do you use in your products?

A. We use only 100% natural Dunlop and 100% natural Talalay latex in our products. Latex is certified to the Euro-Latex® Eco Standard and the Oeko-Tex® Standard 100

Our organic collection is made with 100% organic GOLS-certified Dunlop latex.

Q. Are your mattresses the same as Dunlopillo?

A. No. Dunlopillo is one of the leading brands, and their mattresses are made with Dunlop latex. However, we use the same latex supplier for some of our collections. You can be reassured that the quality of our mattresses is as good as Dunlopillo’s.

Q. Why are your prices much lower than your competitors?

A. We manufacture all our products ourselves and sell them only directly to the public. We do not have huge overheads, fancy showrooms, or expensive advertising campaigns. This enables us to cut out all middlemen and pass on massive savings to our customers. In fact, our products are up to 50% cheaper than those on the high street.

Q. Are your latex mattresses and toppers sustainable and eco-friendly?

A. Sustainable construction techniques and materials are used to build the products. You may sleep soundly knowing that our mattresses and toppers are environmentally friendly and green. We are committed to creating eco-friendly latex mattresses without memory foam's adverse environmental impacts.

Q. What are the Dunlop and Talalay manufacturing processes?

A. The natural latex is harvested from the rubber trees. The milk derived from the sap of the rubber tree is vulcanised into foam using natural soaps, vulcanising paste, and gelling agents. Our 100% natural latex is a truly green and environmentally friendly product and does not contain any solvents or toxic chemicals.

Dunlop is the original manufacturing process for latex foams. It was first developed way back in 1929, and the method has not changed much since then. This process produces a relatively dense foam, but it can be engineered to a variety of firmness levels. Dunlop latex is made in moulds; one side of the core is softer than the other because, during manufacturing, the latex particles tend to settle at the bottom of the mould, where the bottom side is firmer than the top. This composition is well-suited for support cores in mattresses. Dunlop is generally less expensive to manufacture, mostly because the process is far less intensive. This can often be reflected in the final price of new mattresses.

Talalay is a complex contemporary manufacturing method that involves a few additional steps as compared to the Dunlop latex process. Before baking, the latex is whipped into a froth, poured into a mould, sealed with a vacuum, and then rapidly frozen. The key distinction is the freezing stage (-30°C/-22°F), when the round cells break open so they can connect with each other. Talalay latex is up to ten times more breathable than other foams due to these interconnected round cells. The cell structure is very consistent, and has one uniform feel all the way through from top to bottom as well as a lighter, fluffier feel. Talalay latex is made with one comfort zone due to its superior elasticity, as it adapts better to the shape of the body. The process is more expensive due to its two extra steps and the limitation of the size of the moulds.

Q. What is the EuroLatex ECO Standard test specification for latex foam cores?

A. The EuroLATEX ECO-Standard for latex foam cores has been developed by the European Latex Foam Manufacturers Association in close cooperation with one of Europe’s leading and most reputable scientific institutes. The ECO Standard defines the permissible levels of substances considered harmless to health. This is based on scientific evidence and the severe constraints imposed by other standards. The following chemicals are tested for: Heavy metals, Nitrosamines, Pesticides, Solvents, Volatile organic components.

The Euro Latex ECO-Standard has been formally recognised by the European Commission. Therefore, Latex Senses employs latex that voluntarily adheres to this certification in order to provide customers with an officially safe product.

Q. What are the benefits of 100% Natural Dunlop Latex?

A. The benefits are as follows:

Feel: While a higher density may not always indicate a more rigid feel, Dunlop's firmness ensures it has a less bouncy feel than Talalay latex, which some people prefer. Its bouncy feel is devoid of the "sinking" sensation that others associate with Talalay latex mattresses.

Comfort: Dunlop provides excellent progressive comfort and sturdy support with minimal latex thickness.

Support: A mattress constructed of 100% Natural Dunlop Latex strikes a perfect mix of divine comfort and superb resistance while offering excellent value for money.

Durability: Dunlop latex is known for its durability. It tends to be long-lasting and resilient, which means it can maintain its shape and supportive properties for many years. This longevity can          contribute to its overall value.

Cost-Effective: Dunlop is often less expensive to manufacture, owing to a considerably less demanding manufacturing process. This tends to be reflected in the final cost of new mattresses, making Dunlop latex a favourable foam with excellent features at reasonable prices.

Q. What are the benefits of 100% Natural Talalay Latex?

Talalay latex is defined as the ‘’Earth's Finest Sleeping Material.’’

Responsive bounce: Talalay latex has a responsive and springy quality. When pressure is applied, it immediately returns to its former shape. The latex material lightly elevates and supports the body, creating a buoyant experience.

Dynamic support: The buoyant sensation contributes to a dynamic support system. The latex adjusts instantly when you move or shift during sleep, providing constant and adaptive support.

Weight Distribution: Talalay latex is known for its ability to distribute weight equally. When you lie on a surface made of this material, it cradles your body and prevents you from sinking or bottoming out. You feel the sensation of floating on the surface instead of being engulfed by it.

Pressure relief: The floating support helps alleviate pressure points by conforming to the contours of the body. This is particularly beneficial for reducing discomfort in areas such as the shoulders, hips, and joints.

Talalay latex is a lavish, luxurious material with a silky feel. It is softer, bouncier, and springier than Dunlop latex. Talalay latex offers excellent support and surpasses comfort. It conforms to the body's contours, providing great pressure relief.

Q. What are the fundamental differences between Dunlop and Talalay latex in mattresses?

A. The main distinction between these two foams is that Dunlop is denser and more solid, while Talalay is softer, less dense, and more consistent in structure. The ones that follow are the most apparent differences between Talalay and Dunlop mattresses:

Feel

In general, Dunlop latex is more robust and denser than Talalay latex. Frequently, Dunlop is used for the foundational core of latex mattresses, whereas Talalay is applied for the top comfort layers as it provides a more plush and cushioning feel. Both types, though, can be designed for a range of tension levels.

Cost

Dunlop is often less expensive to produce, owing to a considerably less demanding manufacturing process. This tends to be reflected in the final cost of new mattresses, with Talalay latex mattresses having a premium price compared to Dunlop latex mattresses.

Environmental Longevity

Regardless of the production process, latex has been determined to be more environmentally friendly than alternatives such as memory foam. It is organically obtained from a sustainable source, and it is more durable than alternatives, resulting in a lower environmental cost in the long run. The Dunlop process is slightly less energy-intensive, so it may be moderately more sustainable than Talalay. Despite that, both latex versions are equally durable.

Q. What are the beneficial aspects of a mattress that combines a Talalay pillowtop with a Dunlop base?

A. Since each method produces a mattress with unique features, neither the Dunlop nor the Talalay process is superior to the other. Therefore, the combination of a 100% natural Dunlop core and a 100% natural Talalay top layer achieves exceptional progressive comfort by utilising the best benefits of both worlds. Progressive comfort in a mattress refers to a design that offers varying levels of firmness or support in different layers of the mattress.

Talalay latex foam is widely incorporated in mattress comfort layers because of its softness and springiness, as well as its flexibility and breathability. Talalay's exceptional latex feature is that it draws heat from your body, enabling you to sleep cooler. It is softer, bouncier, and springier than Dunlop latex. Talalay latex offers excellent resilience and surpasses comfort. Dunlop provides excellent progressive comfort and sturdy support with minimal latex thickness, while the Talalay top layer adds plush comfort, optimum pressure-relieving properties, and muscle relaxation. The mattress comprises a softer, springier Talalay top pillow with a built-in topper and a firmer Dunlop core for optimum support. It offers a softer sleeping area with firmer support. The buoyant sensation contributes to a dynamic support system. The latex adjusts instantly when you move or shift during sleep, providing constant and adaptive support. The combination of two types of latex increases durability and breathability, promoting a blissful sleep experience.

Q. What are the features of Tencel Purotex Cover?

A. The mattress cover is made of Tencel fabric, which is a natural fibre extracted from wood pulp. ActiproTM technology is used in the fabric to provide healthful protection against allergens, dust mites, and odours, which helps to maintain a clean, fresh, and healthy sleep environment. Actipro is an anti-bacterial treatment applied to the Tencel fabric that uses active probiotics. Actipro probiotic finish is a safe and effective natural solution for combating allergens without destroying the positive microorganisms. During manufacture, the Actipro microflora is attached to the cover fabric using natural clay technology. Actipro offers natural protection against house dust mites by neutralising the allergens.

Q. What is the Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 certification for the Tencel Cover?

The textiles in the Tencel Purotex Mattress Cover are certified to Oeko-Tex® Standard 100. If a textile product bears the STANDARD 100 label, you may be confident that every component of the article, including thread, button, and other component, has been tested for hazardous substances and that the product itself is consequently safe for people and even babies. The test is carried out by the independent OEKO-TEX® partner institutes using the complete OEKO-TEX. At least once a year, the criteria catalogue is updated and widened to reflect contemporary scientific knowledge or statutory needs.

Q. What is Organic Latex?

A. Our 100% Organic and Natural GOLS Dunlop Latex is sourced from Sri Lanka. The organic latex is certified to GOLS standards (Global Organic Latex Standards), proving that the raw material is obtained from organically grown rubber tree plantations. It is a sustainable process, and each mattress has a sticker with a unique product number that can be traced. Our organic mattresses are hypoallergenic, anti-dust mite, and anti-asthmatic. People who prefer organic living as a lifestyle are drawn towards organic products.

Q. What is Organic Wool and Cotton Cover, and what are its advantages?

A. The Organic cover is made with 100% Organic GOTS Wool and 100% Organic GOTS Cotton, a very high thread count.

  • The textiles are GOTS-certified (Global Organic Textile Standards). The wool material is attached to the natural cotton backing
  • Wool natural fibres create heat as they absorb moisture and then create a cooling action as the moisture is wicked away. The qualities of wool are designed to keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The ability of wool to regulate your temperature while sleeping means that your sleep temperature is naturally regulated throughout the night
Q. How do I choose the firmness of the mattress? Soft, Medium, or Firm?

A. The choice of firmness depends on your body weight, sleeping positions, the bed base you use, and your personal preference.

  • Soft mattresses are suitable for children and very light people weighing up to 9st / 57kg, and who enjoy sinking into the bed
  • Medium mattresses are suitable for people with body weights up to 14st / 90kg
  • Firm comfort levels are recommended for heavier people, as they need denser support to keep their spines aligned
  • Side sleepers prefer medium mattresses as they enable the shoulders and hips to sink deeper
  • Front and back sleepers find firmer mattresses more comfortable as they keep the back and spine in the correct position during sleep

The bed base is very important; the same mattress will feel firmer on a solid top divan and softer on a sprung slatted base, for example.

Q. Is it possible to have two sides of the mattress made with different levels of firmness?

A. Yes. We can make king, euro king, and super king-size mattresses with two sides with different firmness. If you need further details about an order or have specific requirements, please drop us an email at sales@latexsense.co.uk or make an enquiry HERE

Q. What is the advantage of buying the thickest mattress?

A. The 24 cm-deep mattress will offer a substantially more luxurious sleeping surface and superior muscle relaxation.

Comfort: A deeper mattress offers better weight distribution for heavier people and is recommended if partners are sharing the sleeping area. It also provides additional support and cushioning, which allows for enhanced sleep.

Durability: A thicker mattress will endure longer and is unlikely to deteriorate over time.
Deeper mattresses help to reduce the 'roll together' sensation, which may interfere with the quality of sleep for both partners. They also effectively reduce movement.

Pressure relief: Deep or thick-profile mattresses contribute to greater relaxation along with pressure alleviation for people who sleep on them.

Q. What is the structure of the 7 comfort zones clever feature?

A. All 100% Natural Dunlop Latex Mattresses feature the unique 7 comfort zones structure, which recognises that for optimum comfort, both heavier and lighter parts of the body require different levels of support. The 7-zone feature provides you with vital support for your head, shoulders, back, hips, legs, knees, and ankles and promotes night-long natural sleep.

The 7 comfort zones are symmetrically positioned; rotating the mattress from head to toe is fine and will not conflict with them. The zones are achieved with different-sized holes in the latex, but the density is the same. Larger holes offer softer support, and smaller holes offer firmer support.

The zoned areas start at both ends of the mattress, and the individual measurements of

  • Zones 1 and 7 are 30cm
  • Zones 2 and 6 are also 30 cm
  • Zones 3 and 5 are 20 cm
  • Zone 4 is 40cm

Zones 1 and 7 have the same hardness as zones 2 and 6, and zones 3 and 5, respectively. The firmest zone is 4 and is positioned in the centre of the mattress.

The firmness rating is derived from the density of the latex material used and is not influenced by the 7-zone system. The denser the latex, the firmer the support it gives.

Q. Do you make mattresses and toppers in Bespoke size and Bespoke firmness?

A. We can make our mattresses and toppers in any shape and size. Additionally, we can manufacture various firmness options with customised layers of latex based on individual preferences and requirements. Bespoke products are made to order, so delivery takes longer.

Q. What type of bed base do you recommend for your mattresses?

A. Bed-base requirement: All of our mattresses can be used with any durable and high-quality bed platform that provides adequate support, such as a solid top divan, a sprung edge divan, a solid slatted base, or a sprung slatted base. The majority of the mattresses are compatible with adjustable beds. However, it is essential to ensure that the gaps across the slats measure between 2 and 3 inches wide (5cm to 7.5cm). Using the mattress on a bed with a greater gap could cause damage and invalidate your guarantee. Also, please do not use the mattress on the floor, as the lack of ventilation may lead to mould and mildew buildup, which will revoke your guarantee.

Please read the particular specifications on the website page of your chosen product regarding individual mattress requirements and recommendations.

Latex Sense reserves the right to refuse warranty repair or replacement if a new mattress becomes damaged due to being used on a bed base with inadequate slat gaps, a second-hand bed foundation with insufficient support, or if it is in an unsanitary condition.

Q. Which mattress is recommended for children and young adolescents?

Q. How do I choose my mattress if I have a medical condition or health problem?

A. Although the medical use of latex mattresses has not been clinically evaluated, it is well considered that softer or firmer mattresses may be preferable for those with specific medical conditions to suit their sleep needs.

For instance, those with back pain may prefer harder mattresses with fewer layers, whereas people with other conditions listed below may prefer thicker mattresses with more comfort layers, which increase the mattress's softness and height.

Degenerated discs, scoliosis, and back pain: This excessive pressure may exert strain on the discs, eventually harming them. A firmer latex mattress can help align your spine as you sleep, minimising your pain and giving your body a chance to heal. Latex mattresses will improve and enhance the quality of your life. Excellent choices are Original   Premium  Latex Coir Dual Comfort

Spine injuries: Spinal injuries may have a profound impact on one's life. In the early stages of your rehabilitation, you could spend more time in bed. Given its softness and excellent support, latex can cradle your spine and any limbs that you might not be able to feel. Latex encourages blood flow to the limbs, lessens bedsores, and helps your spine mend. Any full-latex or pocket-sprung mattress will prove suitable, provided that you choose the level of support based on your body weight and sleeping position. A few of the many suitable options are: Superdeluxe   Cloud   Serenity  Vitality

Fibromyalgia and chronic pains: A latex mattress with a plush Soft Talalay top and a firmer Dunlop core can give you the support you need to align your body, as well as luxurious softness that lessens pain at challenging pressure points or along the surface of your skin. Getting sufficient sleep can be difficult for FMS people, but nevertheless, you'll wake up with more vitality. Mattresses that make you feel like you are sleeping on a cloud: Bliss  Opulence  Superior

Sciatica: For people with sciatic nerve pain that migrates from the low back to the back of the thigh and calf, a deep, medium-firm or firm latex or hybrid mattress is recommended. It will help to promote and maintain optimum spine alignment and alleviate pressure on the lower back and hips. Mattresses to provide comfort are: Cloud  Serenity  Bellagio  Organic Hybrid  Harmony  Sensation

Arthritis: The bone-deep discomfort and soreness of arthritis can be managed at night by the soft support of latex. To maintain your body at its peak performance throughout the night, latex cradles and aligns your spine, relieving additional strain on the joints. Thicker and softer-feeling latex mattresses will benefit people who encounter arthritis pain. High class mattresses to prove beneficial are : Bellagio  Millenium

Q. If I suffer from allergies, can latex cause an allergic reaction? Does latex emit any fumes?

A. No. Latex is naturally anti-allergenic, anti-bacterial, and anti-dust mite. During manufacturing, latex is vulcanised at a temperature of more than 110 degrees for about 45 minutes, and this process kills all potential allergens, making it an excellent choice for those with allergies or sensitivities. You can be allergic to latex gloves, for example; however, it is very unlikely that the latex used in mattresses will cause an allergic reaction.

Moreover, latex does not emit any harmful fumes, unlike memory foams, which are made from chemicals. Mattresses made entirely of natural materials do not release any gases. They may have a mild natural rubber scent initially when they come out of our factory, but it dissipates within a few days.

NOTE: If you have been diagnosed with a latex allergy, you should exercise extra caution.

Q. Is latex material suitable for hot and restless sleepers?

A. Latex is a naturally breathable and self-ventilating material that does not cause overheating. It is constructed with millions of interconnected air bubbles that allow instant air circulation and keep the mattress fresh and cool all night. Latex is not a heat-sensitive product and does not react to body temperature. We recommend using natural cotton bed sheets and duvets to create a pleasant microclimate in your bed. The mattress will promote comfort, rejuvenation, and deep, restful sleep.

Q. Why does my mattress or topper get hot during the night?

A.  Latex is not a heat-sensitive product and does not react to body temperature. The overheating could be caused by your bedlinen. Some people experience heath issues when sleeping on synthetic materials like polyester, for example. Using natural cotton bed sheets and duvets will create a pleasant microclimate in your bed. Also, if the bed is too soft and you sink too deeply in, the result could be a warmer sleep as your body is surrounded by the mattress and there is a lack of ventilation.

Tip: One way to find out if the mattress is too soft or too firm is to lie on your back and try to slide your hand under your lower back. If your hand goes in too easily, the mattress is probably too firm for you. If you struggle to slide it, this means the mattress is probably too soft. If you can slide your hand in with little resistance, this is the right firmness for you.

Q. What fire-retardant methods do you use to comply with UK Fire regulations?

A. According to UK law, all mattresses must comply with certain fire safety standards. It is a legal requirement for all mattresses to be made fire-retardant. We choose to employ natural graphite instead of toxic chemicals. We use natural graphite, a mineral derived from Mother Nature, as the only natural fire-retardant additive in the mattress. The graphite has fire-retardant properties, and when mixed with latex, it acts as a fire barrier.

Q. What distinguishes your Latex Pocket Hybrid Mattresses from other types of pocket-sprung mattresses?

A. Pocket-sprung mattresses are considered to be a contemporary progress on conventional open-coil mattresses. Our mattresses have a unique construction consisting of thousands of individual springs encased in latex or foam to create lengths of interconnected springs. Each pocket spring moves independently and adjusts to the sleeper for customised comfort, making it a popular choice amongst mattress buyers looking for the perfect spot for relaxation. The individual foam-encased springs offer better contouring and support compared to traditional innerspring mattresses. The coils offer the right level of support, minimal motion transfer, improved airflow, and an exceptionally uplifting sleeping experience.

Exceptional benefits are:

  • The top comfort layer of latex is a naturally breathable and self-ventilating material that does not cause overheating. It is constructed with millions of interconnected air bubbles that allow instant air circulation and keep the mattress fresh and cool all night. Latex is not a heat-sensitive product and does not react to body temperature
  • The air circulation through the pocket springs also assists in maintaining a cooler sleeping environment
  • We use only 100% natural latex, and the springs are heat-treated steel wire. The mattress does not contain any chemicals or synthetic materials. The 100% natural  latex is halogen-, metal-, and chemical-free
Q. What are the unique qualities of a budget-friendly mattress made of 100% Natural Latex and Polyurethane Foam?

A. The reflex foam we use is high-density polyurethane foam, which is the industry's leading filler-free foam range. It offers superior durability, recovery, and service life. The polyurethane foam is certified and complies with the requirements of the CertiPUR Health, Safety, and Environmental Standard.  A mattress with a 100% latex top and a polyurethane foam base combines the great comfort of natural latex with the sturdy support of high-density polyurethane foam. The mattress offers exceptional value for money.

Natural Material: 100% natural latex is sourced from the sap of rubber trees, making it an environmentally green and sustainable material.

Comfort and Support: 100% natural latex is known for its responsive and supportive properties. It conforms to your body shape, providing pressure relief where needed.

Breathability: Latex is a naturally highly breathable material, allowing for good air circulation. This can help regulate temperature and prevent overheating during sleep.

Durability: Latex is generally durable and resilient, with a longer lifespan compared to some other mattress materials.

Polyurethane High-Density Foam (Reflex Foam): provides an extremely sturdy, firm base for the mattress. It is intended to provide rigidity and prevent sinking.

Affordability: Polyurethane foam tends to be less costly than natural latex or other premium materials, making the mattress more affordable and budget-friendly.

Longevity: High-density polyurethane foam has been praised for its resilience, which contributes to the mattress's overall lifespan.

Motion Isolation: Latex and polyurethane incorporation have good motion isolation qualities, which indicates disturbances on one side of the bed are less likely to be felt on the opposite side.

Lightweight: When compared to other mattress materials, polyurethane foam is quite lightweight, making it easier to handle and move.

Polyurethane foam is adjustable since it can be produced with a variety of densities and firmness levels, allowing for modification according to specific comfort and support requirements. Given its flexibility, it is a common material for mattress building.

Q. What is CertiPUR certification, and what is its significance?

A. CertiPUR sets the most rigorous standard and ensures that polyurethane foams are free of harmful substances, which is an increasing concern among consumers. The polyurethane foam is certified and complies with the requirements of the CertiPUR Health, Safety, and Environmental Standard. The CertiPUR programme offers customers the confidence and comfort of knowing that the polyurethane foam used in the mattresses met the standards for emissions, content, and durability and was tested by independent, accredited laboratories that are not affiliated with the manufacturer of the products being tested.

CertiPUR certification highlights:

No Harmful Chemicals: CertiPUR-certified foams are evaluated to verify they are FREE of dangerous substances such as ozone depleters, mercury, PBDE flame retardants, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates.

Low VOC Emissions: The certification tackles indoor air quality challenges by limiting the foam's volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions. Low VOC emissions contribute to healthier indoor air quality.

Environmentally Friendly: CertiPUR certification does not specifically address the environmental impact of the foam, but it does reflect a dedication to generating foams that are more environmentally friendly than other conventional foams.

Durability: CertiPUR assesses the foam's durability and performance to guarantee that it meets or surpasses certain criteria. This helps ensure that the foam's integrity and function remain intact throughout time.

You may rest assured that by choosing a mattress constructed with CertiPUR-certified polyurethane foam, you are making a healthier and more mindful choice for your sleep environment.

Q. What is Latex Coconut Coir mattress?

A. Latex Coconut Coir Mattress combines 100% Organic GOLS Dunlop Latex and 100% Organic and Natural Coconut Coir, a 100% Organic GOTS Cotton Cover quilted with 100% Organic GOTS Wool. It offers extra-firm support. The coconut coir, which is derived from coconut husks, acts as a support layer. The latex provides comfort and adds extra resilience. The incorporation of coconut coir in mattresses contributes to a more natural and sustainable sleep surface, providing robust support and several health and environmental benefits for sleepers.

Q. What is the difference between Latex Coir and Latex Coir Dual Comfort Mattresses?

A. The only difference is in the firmness levels they offer; the Coir Latex Mattress has identical sides and will feel harder than the Latex Coir Dual Comfort Mattress, which is two-sided and offers two levels of support and more flexibility. Both are complimented with deep quilted organic wool and organic cotton cover that adds loft and extra softness to the sleeping surface.

The Latex Coir Mattress is 20cm thick and offers extra-firm support. This three-layer mattress comprises 5cm of natural latex in medium density, 8 cm of coir in the middle, and 5 cm of natural latex in medium density. The Latex Coir Mattress is turnable, but both sides offer the same support.

The Latex Coir Dual Comfort Mattress is 20cm thick and offers extra-firm support. This three-layer mattress comprises 5cm of natural latex in medium density, 5cm of coir in the middle, and 8 cm of natural latex in medium density. The Latex Coir Dual Comfort Mattress is two-sided; one side of the mattress is classified as extra-firm, and the opposite side is medium-firm.

If you find the side with 5cm too hard, you can flip the mattress over and sleep on the 8cm side, which offers more gentle and softer support.

The deep quilted organic wool and organic cotton zip-off cover adds loft and extra softness to the sleeping surface.

Both are available in all UK standard and bespoke sizes. Additionally, we can manufacture various bespoke firmness options with different layers of coconut coir and latex based on individual preferences and requirements.

Q. Do you use any adhesives to bond different layers in the mattress?

A. We use water-based natural latex glue, Simalfa 325, which is solvent and chemical free. The adhesive has Green Guard Gold Certification and conforms to the many changing environmental regulations, proven to be completely harmless. The adhesive SIMALFA® 325 does not contain any substances or raw materials from animal products, and therefore it is vegan.

Q. What is the purpose of a mattress topper?

A. Latex toppers are designed to add extra comfort and softness to the existing mattress. They conform to your body and relieve pressure points. A latex topper is a great way to improve the comfort of your mattress without having to replace the entire mattress.

Q. Are latex toppers suitable for all types of mattresses?

A. Yes,our latex toppers can be used on all mattress types—memory foam, pocket-sprung, hybrid, and latex mattresses—as long as the mattress is in immaculate condition. However, if the mattress has a hand-tufted button finish, the topper will fill the gaps between the bumps, and this may give the impression of sagging or dipping.

Q. Can a topper improve mattress lifespan?

A. Absolutely, a mattress topper can extend the lifespan of your mattress. Here's how:

Protection: A topper acts as a barrier, preserving the integrity of the mattress beneath.

Enhanced Comfort: By adding an extra layer of cushioning, a topper reduces direct wear on the mattress. It helps distribute your body weight more evenly and prevents pressure points that can degrade the mattress over time.

Delaying sagging or indentation: If your mattress has started to develop indentations, a topper can mitigate this issue by providing a more even surface to sleep on. While it will NOT fix severe sagging, it can delay further damage.

Customisation: If you find your mattress uncomfortable due to its firmness, a topper allows you to adapt the sleeping surface to your preferences without needing to replace the entire mattress.

Cost-Effective Solution: Investing in a quality topper is often more affordable than buying a new mattress. It can breathe new life into your existing mattress, postponing the need for a replacement.

Reduced wear and tear: With the topper absorbing most of the daily wear, your mattress experiences less direct contact, leading to reduced wear and tear and potentially extending its usable life.

However, it's crucial to note that while a topper can offer benefits and prolong the lifespan of your mattress, it might not entirely solve deep structural issues or an already significantly deteriorated mattress. Regularly rotating and flipping your mattress, along with using a topper, can collectively contribute to a longer mattress lifespan.

Q. Will the topper fix a sagging mattress?

A. While it can improve comfort and support, a topper will not fix a severely sagging mattress. The mattress needs to be intact and provide a solid base for the topper. Please note that latex is quite a dense and heavy material and follows the contours of the mattress underneath. If there are any indentations on the mattress surface, they will also be present on the topper. It's essential to assess the condition of your mattress before opting for a topper.

Q. How thick should a latex topper be?

The ideal thickness depends on personal preference and the condition of your current mattress. However, it's important to consider personal preferences when choosing a topper's thickness. Some customers might prefer a thinner topper for a balance between support and cushioning, while others might opt for a thicker one for a more luxurious feel. In addition, the thickness of your topper should complement the overall height of your mattress to promote ease of getting in and out of bed.

  • A deeper topper means more padding and cushioning, which can significantly increase the comfort level of your mattress. It offers a plush sleeping surface, allowing for better pressure relief and contouring to your body
  • While thickness primarily contributes to cushioning, it can also enhance support. A thicker topper can provide an additional layer of support to promote proper spinal alignment
  • For people with joint pain or specific pressure points, a thicker topper can offer better relief by reducing the direct impact on those areas and distributing weight more evenly
Q. What should I consider when deciding on a Dunlop or Talalay topper?

A. When choosing between 100% natural Talalay and 100% natural Dunlop latex toppers, consider your preferences for firmness, support, and feel. Dunlop latex tends to be denser and firmer compared to Talalay latex.

Both Talalay and Dunlop latex are natural latex types derived from the sap of rubber trees and are equally durable. Yet they undergo different manufacturing processes, resulting in distinct characteristics with their own unique benefits:

  • Our Dunlop latex toppers are of exceptional quality and value for money. Dunlop latex is an excellent solution for those seeking a slightly denser, more supportive surface with a silky cushioning feel but on a limited budget
  • Our Talalay toppers offer a plusher and more luxurious feel at a premium price. The Talalay latex is very elastic, feels bouncy and springy, and may be better suited if you want a gentler feel with more pressure relief
Q. How do I decide whether to purchase a 5cm or 8cm thick topper?

A. The general rule is that if your mattress is a little firmer, then the 5-cm-deep topper will prove sufficiently comfortable and positively impact the sleeping surface. Alternatively, if the mattress is way too hard and causes pain and aches, the deeper 8-cm topper will be more suitable. The deeper topper will provide extra pressure relief and muscle relaxation. It will also make the bed softer, and with more give and cushioning, you will be able to sink deeper.

Q. Are the mattress and topper covers washable?

A. The covers of mattresses and toppers are NOT washable. The product must be kept dry; therefore, we strongly advise using a good-quality waterproof mattress protector at all times. The zip on the cover is solely used during production to easily place the cover on the mattress. We do not recommend removing and washing the cover; if you do, it is at your own risk, and we will not be held liable for any damage or shrinkage resulting from the washing of the cover. The mattress cover can be cautiously vacuumed, including the underside.

In the event that you spill liquid on your mattress or topper and it gets wet, spot clean any stains with a damp cloth, carefully unzip and remove the top panel of the cover to naturally dry until the liquid is evaporated, and then air the core until it is fully dry. The mattress can then be used again. Never use detergents or chemical cleaners on your mattress. This can adversely affect not only the fabrics but also the fillings inside.

Q. What are the care instructions for your mattresses and toppers?

A. Please read below:

Moving and manoeuvring your product

Take extreme care while moving the mattress or topper, as the foam fillings can tear if grabbed or pulled on corners or edges. You can rotate and turn the topper over once every month; this will ensure even wear and tear and prolong its lifespan. One-sided mattresses require rotation once a month, whereas two-sided mattresses should also be turned over regularly.

Mattress and topper care

Do not let children jump on the mattress or topper; it may damage it and invalidate your guarantee. The product is designed for sleeping on; therefore, prolonged sitting on the edge can cause damage and place undue stress on this area of the mattress. You can air-dry the product every time you change your bed linen to keep it fresh and dry.

Please keep packaging away from children. Please recycle or dispose of the packaging.

Q. Can I use my mattress or topper on the floor instead of my bed?

A. Do not use the mattress or topper on the floor; the lack of ventilation may lead to mould and mildew buildup and invalidate your guarantee. When placed on the floor, mattresses can retain heat and absorb moisture, particularly near the bottom, where they are trapped against the floor, encasing dampness and damaging your natural product.

Q. How long can I keep the mattress or topper in a vacuum-packed state?

A. Please be kindly advised that we do not recommend storing the mattress or topper in a rolled and vacuumed state for more than 4 weeks, as this will damage the product.

All mattresses and toppers, except the Latex Coir Mattresses, are vacuum-packed and rolled. This ensures product hygiene, quality in transit, and improved delivery timeframes. Your product was carefully vacuum-packed on the day it was shipped to you. We use one of the newest and most innovative packing technologies in the bedding industry; it neither damages nor impairs the performance of the mattress.

Upon delivery, take the mattress out of the box and put it on the bed. Carefully cut the tape that holds the roll together and unroll the mattress while it is in its polythene bag. Please take extreme care so as not to damage your item. It will still be compressed, and you need to cut the bag closer to the heat seal. Take extra care, as the tool you use can damage the cover.

Q. How can I identify which is the top side of my mattress or topper?

A. The side with the big product sticker attached to the cover is the top side, the side you sleep on. There is no head or foot end; you can position the mattress either way and still experience its full benefits.

Q. What are the delivery timeframes for mattresses, toppers, and pillows?

A. All our mattresses are hand-made to order here in the UK by our skilled team.

Deliveries to the UK mainland and Scotland are FREE of charge and fulfilled on a 2-man service to a room of choice.

Due to the nature of the coconut coir fibre, the Latex Coir and Latex Dual Coir Mattress cannot be compacted or rolled, so it is delivered flat and in a full-size box; therefore, it is explicitly handled by a two-man delivery crew.

Q. How long does the mattress and topper break-in period last?

A. All latex mattresses and toppers have a break-in period, which is usually 30 days. Thus, many companies offer in-home sleep trials, which are intended to give customers the opportunity to adjust and fully evaluate the properties of their mattresses. The exact amount of time it takes to adapt to and get used to a new mattress depends on the type of mattress and how different your new mattress is from your old one. As the break-in period is significantly important, we strongly encourage customers to refrain from exchanging their mattresses before the initial 30 days are over.

Q. How do your mattress and topper trial and double satisfaction guarantee work?

A. Every new mattress feels different, and your body needs some time to adjust and get used to the new feel. It is normal for the mattress to feel a bit strange and not as comfortable in the beginning, but the longer you sleep on it, the better you will experience its benefits.

That is why we offer a free home trial with free exchanges and free returns for UK mainland customers.

Home Trial for Mattresses as follows:

  • The initial home trial period is 50 days, counting from the same day the mattress is delivered to you
  • If you feel unsatisfied with the product you bought for some reason, we will offer expert advice and replace it with an alternative that is more suitable, or you can return it straightaway
  • If you decide to exercise your right to exchange, you can try the replacement mattress for another 50 days and still return it for a full refund if it proves unsatisfactory

Home Trial for Toppers as follows:

  • Toppers can be trialled for 30 days. The beginning of the 30-day home trial period commences on the day the topper is delivered to you
  • If you find the topper not up to your expectations, we may replace it with something more suitable, or you can return it instead
  • If you decide to take advantage of your entitlement to exchange, you'll have an additional 30 days to evaluate the replacement topper before returning it for a full refund if you are still dissatisfied

Q. How is your hassle-free exchange and return policy for mattresses and toppers working?

A. We hope you are delighted with your product from Yanis Mattresses. Occasionally, we know you will want to return or replace items. Thus, we have a hassle-free return policy.

  • The initial home trial period for mattresses is 50 days and 30 days for toppers, counting from the same day the mattress is delivered to you
  • If you find the product uncomfortable, we can exchange it with something more suitable, or you can return it straightaway
  • If you decide to exercise your right to exchange, you can try the replacement mattress for another 50 days and the replacement topper for an additional 30 days and still return it for a full refund if it proves unsatisfactory

All deliveries, returns, and exchanges within the UK Mainland and Scotland are free of charge. Please be aware that any requests for return or exchange must be initiated in written form (via email) within the above-specified trial period. On satisfactory return of the goods, we will issue a refund of the purchase price.

Q. Are all latex mattresses and toppers durable?

A. Yes, 100% natural latex mattresses and toppers are renowned for their longevity, and their expected lifespan is 15 to 20 years and 10 to 15 years, respectively, or even longer with proper care. They often outlast many other types of mattresses. Latex is a natural material with high elasticity and is also extremely durable. It always bounces back to its initial size and shape after long-lasting deformations and keeps a consistent feel across its lifespan.

Q. How long are mattresses guaranteed for, and what does the guarantee cover?

A.

  • All 100% full Dunlop and Talalay Latex Mattresses, 100% full Organic Dunlop Latex Mattresses, and all Latex Coir and Latex Coir Dual Comfort Latex Mattresses carry a 15-year guarantee
  • Hybrid mattresses made with a combination of Latex and Pocket Springs carry a 10-year guarantee
  • Mattresses that incorporate Latex and Polyurethane Foam carry a 5-year guarantee

Besides that, each model has the guarantee timescale explicitly written at the bottom of its individual listing and FAQ section, respectively.

The guarantee works as follows:

We have all our mattresses built to our precise specifications, and therefore we can personally guarantee each model for a period of time. The mattresses come with a manufacturer's guarantee against faults in materials and poor workmanship (including sagging). The warranty covers any visible indentations more than 2cm deep.

  • We require a copy of the original sales receipt as proof of your purchase
  • Our mattress guarantee covers repair or replacement of the original mattress; i.e., if the product is declared faulty, we will not issue a refund but will repair or replace the product accordingly
  • Following a replacement or repair, the guarantee will remain valid from the date of the original purchase
  • The guarantee is valid from the date of the original purchase, is for your benefit as the original purchaser only, and is not transferable to any other person
  • If you sell or transfer your mattress, the subsequent owner accepts the product “as is” and has no rights to claim under the guarantee

What is being provided?

We will repair or replace any product if it develops a fault within the guarantee period. Should that specific product no longer be available, we will provide an alternative product of equivalent specification.

What is not being covered?

  • Willful damage and neglect: Your mattress should be looked after and cared for. A mattress protector should be used at the very least. We will not entertain any claim if the mattress shows obvious signs of mistreatment
  • Normal ageing or wear and tear, including mattress settlement and “dipping” less than 2cm
  • Noises caused by the use of the mattress
  • A tear in the fabric, which can be caused by accidental damage such as the fabric catching some sharp object, will not invoke the warranty as this is not a manufacturing fault or defect
  • The mattress has not been maintained in accordance with the care instructions supplied.
  • Repairs carried out by persons not authorised by us or without prior approval
  • Shrinkage of the mattress cover caused by washing or dry cleaning

Latex Sense reserves the right to refuse warranty repair or replacement if a new mattress becomes damaged due to being used on a bed base with inadequate slat gaps, a second-hand bed foundation with insufficient support, or if it is in an unsanitary condition. However, we will use our discretion to see if any valid complaint is justified.
