This 22cm mattress combines the instant comfort of natural latex with the firm support of high-density reflex foam.

5 cm of 100% natural Dunlop latex relieves pressure points and conforms to every movement. 17cm reflex CertiPUR®-certified foam base offers optimum support.

The open cell structure of the latex and the air channels in the base allow air to flow naturally through the mattress and help to dissipate moisture away from the body for a cooler and fresher sleeping experience.

Latex is naturally hypoallergenic and anti-dust mite; the sleeping environment is free from bed bugs, dust mites, and allergies.

The Dunlop 500 Latex Mattress is delivered rolled up for your convenience and is available in all standard UK, continental, and custom sizes.

The latex used in this mattress is accredited by the ECO Institute in Germany; it is an ECO-certified filler-free product; it secured high marks in the functional performance test of Germany's LGA Quality Testing Body; and it meets the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 requirements.

A comprehensive analysis of the content reveals that 100% natural Dunlop latex foam complies with the following standards:

ECO Institute in Germany conducted a test to evaluate the product's fillers, synthetic rubber, toxic components, and emissions. ECO certification demonstrates that our products are free of fillers, synthetic rubber, and hazardous ingredients, certifying them to be 100% natural.

ECO certification confirms that latex block components are free from SBR or additional filler content and have passed with significantly higher ratings at the test.

STANDARD 100 of the OEKO-TEX® accreditation examines the recognition of "baby-safe" materials and REACH standards. The STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® certificate applies to 100% natural latex foam mattresses, toppers, pillows, and covers. It offers a high level of protection for human health and the environment from chemical exposure.

LGA Quality Test Germany assesses the durability and resilience of natural latex. Our latex achieved 99/100 in this test.

The Polyurethane Foam complies with the requirements of CertiPUR Health, Safety, and Environmental Standards

CertiPUR is a rigorous standard for polyurethane foams, ensuring they are free of harmful substances and tested by independent, accredited laboratories, addressing consumer concerns about emissions, content, and durability.

"Very happy with the quality and service. it's the third mattress we purchased from this shop... no reason to look elsewhere"

By Pippi on 3rd March 2020
"We already had one of these mattresses in a single bed, and have decided to replace those our our double bed. The quality is excellent, however it appears that two adjacent 90cm mattresses make some lateral stress on our bed frame, which is a 180cm european wooden bed frame. The issue is not really on the width of the base of the mattress rather on the slightly bulging sides of the mattresses along the entire length of 200cm. As a result, it is advisable to use just one single full size protector sheet. I was indeed in doubt whether to return them, and the lack of a 87 cm and even worse the task of having to put back those mattresses into their plastic hull without any possibility of rolling them back in vacuum was daunting to me. In a single bed, this is much less noticeable. The mattress is evidently very good, not as firm as I expected. The smell of latex will remain for a long while, and this seems to be unavoidable."

Care instructions

Status of the mattress upon delivery

The Dunlop 500 Latex Mattress is vacuum-packed and rolled. This ensures mattress hygiene, quality in transit, and improved delivery timeframes. Your mattress was carefully vacuum-packed on the day it was shipped to you. We use one of the newest and most innovative packing technologies in the bedding industry; it neither damages nor impairs the performance of the mattress.

Storing your mattress and how to handle it

Please be kindly advised that we do not recommend storing the mattress in a rolled and vacuumed state for more than 4 weeks, as this will damage the product. Take the mattress out of the box and put it on the bed. Carefully cut the tape that holds the roll together and unroll the mattress while it is in its polythene bag. Please take extreme care so as not to damage your item. It will still be compressed, and you need to cut the bag closer to the heat seal. Take extra care, as the tool you use can damage the cover.

Sleeping on the mattress

The mattress recovers to its full shape and size after unpacking; please allow up to 24 hours for the optimal balance to be reached. However, since it is not a mandatory requirement, you can begin using the mattress right away.

Identifying the top side of your mattress

The side with the big product sticker attached to the cover is the 5cm latex top side, the side you sleep on. The Dunlop 500 Latex Mattress is zoned, which are symmetrically positioned along the length; there is no head or foot end. You can position the mattress either way and still experience the benefits of the zones.

Moving and manoeuvring your mattress

Take extreme care while moving the mattress, as the foam fillings can tear if grabbed or pulled on corners or edges. You can rotate the mattress from head to foot once every month; this will ensure even wear and tear and prolong its lifespan.

Cleaning your mattress

The mattress covers are NOT washable. The mattress must be kept dry; therefore, we strongly advise using a good-quality mattress protector at all times. The zip on the cover is solely used during production to easily place the cover on the mattress. We do not recommend removing and washing the cover; if you do, it is at your own risk, and we will not be held liable for any damage or shrinkage resulting from the washing of the cover. The mattress cover can be cautiously vacuumed, including the underside.

In the event that you spill liquid on your mattress and it gets wet, spot clean any stains with a damp cloth, carefully unzip and remove the top panel of the cover to naturally dry until the liquid is evaporated, and then air the mattress core until it is fully dry. The mattress can then be used again. Never use detergents or chemical cleaners on your mattress. This can adversely affect not only the fabrics but also the fillings inside.

Bed-base requirement

The mattress can be used on any bed base—solid top divan, sprung edge divan, solid slatted, or sprung slatted base. The gaps across the slats should be between 2 and 3 inches wide (5 cm to 7.5 cm). Using the mattress with a wider gap could cause damage and invalidate your guarantee. Do not use the mattress on the floor; the lack of ventilation may lead to mould and mildew buildup and invalidate your guarantee.

Latex Sense reserves the right to refuse warranty repair or replacement if a new mattress becomes damaged due to being used on a bed base with inadequate slat gaps, a second-hand bed foundation with insufficient support, or if it is in an unsanitary condition.

Mattress care

Do not let children jump on the mattress; it may damage it and invalidate your guarantee. The mattress is designed for sleeping on; therefore, prolonged sitting on the edge can cause damage and place undue stress on this area of the mattress. The mattress is one-sided; you can rotate it from head to foot once every month, which will ensure even wear and tear and prolong its lifespan. You can air the mattress every time you change your bed linen to keep it fresh and dry.

Please keep packaging away from children. Please recycle or dispose of the packaging.

How is Dunlop latex made?

All natural latex is harvested from rubber trees. The sap, also called latex milk, is transformed into foam through vulcanisation using natural soaps, vulcanising agents, and gelling agents. Our 100% natural latex is environmentally friendly and contains no solvents or toxic chemicals.

Dunlop Latex

  • Invented in 1929, Dunlop latex is poured into moulds and baked.
  • The latex particles naturally settle during the process, creating a denser base and slightly softer top, ideal for mattress support cores.
  • This durable foam can be customised to different firmness levels.
  • Less intensive to produce, making Dunlop mattresses affordable while providing long-lasting comfort and support.
What is Reflex Foam?

Reflex foam is a high-density polyurethane foam used in mattresses for its durability and resilience. It is a man-made, filler-free material that provides excellent support, quickly recovers its shape, and has a long service life, making it a popular choice for high-quality, long-lasting mattresses.

What are the features of a 100% natural latex and polyurethane foam budget mattress?

A 100% natural latex and polyurethane foam mattress combines the comfort of natural latex with the sturdy support of high-density polyurethane (reflex) foam, offering exceptional value for money.

Key features:

  • Natural Material: 100% natural latex is sourced from rubber trees, making it sustainable and eco-friendly
  • Comfort and Support: Latex provides responsive pressure relief, while polyurethane foam offers a firm, stable base
  • Breathability: Natural ventilation promotes airflow and helps regulate sleeping temperature
  • Durability: Both materials are resilient, ensuring long-lasting performance
  • Affordability: Polyurethane foam keeps the mattress budget-friendly without compromising quality
  • Motion Isolation: Reduces movement transfer, making it ideal for couples
  • Lightweight and Flexible: Easy to handle and available in different densities and firmness levels for customised comfort

This mattress is ideal for sleepers seeking eco-friendly comfort, reliable support, and durability at an affordable price.

Is Polyurethane Foam certified to CertiPUR® standards, and are formaldehyde and toxic substances regulated?

Yes, the polyurethane foam in our mattresses is CertiPUR® certified, meeting strict health, safety, and environmental standards. It is free from harmful substances such as formaldehyde, heavy metals, PBDE flame retardants, ozone depleters, and phthalates, and has low VOC emissions for healthier indoor air quality. CertiPUR® also ensures the foam is durable and performs over time, giving you a safe, long-lasting, and non-toxic sleep environment.

Is the Dunlop 500 Latex Mattress non-toxic?

Yes, the Dunlop 500 Latex Mattress is a low-chemical product manufactured to recognised safety standards. It is independently tested and certified by organisations such as OEKO-TEX® and eco-INSTITUT, which limit harmful substances and emissions, ensuring a safe and non-toxic sleep environment. The high-density reflex foam core is CertiPUR® certified, providing durable support without harmful chemicals, ensuring a safe and healthy sleep environment.

Is the Dunlop 500 Latex Mattress safe for people with allergies and sensitivities?

Yes, the Dunlop 500 Latex Mattress is naturally hypoallergenic, anti-bacterial, and resistant to dust mites, making it suitable for people with allergies and sensitivities. It is vulcanised at temperatures above 110°C, which helps eliminate potential allergens. While some people may react to latex products such as gloves, it is very unlikely that latex used in mattresses will cause an allergic reaction. Natural latex does not emit harmful fumes. A mild rubber scent may be noticeable when the mattress is new, but it fades quickly.

Note: Those with a diagnosed latex allergy should exercise caution.

Is the Dunlop 500 Latex Mattress good for hot sleepers?

Yes, the Dunlop 500 Latex Mattress is is an excellent choice for hot sleepers. Its breathable latex layer contains millions of air cells that promote airflow and prevent heat build-up, while the reflex foam core provides supportive comfort without trapping warmth. Unlike memory foam, latex does not retain body heat, helping maintain a cooler, more comfortable sleep environment.

For best results, we recommend using natural cotton bed sheets and duvets to create a comfortable sleep microclimate. Together, these features support excellent temperature regulation, enhanced comfort, and deep, restful sleep.

What fire-retardant methods are used in the Dunlop 500 Latex Mattress?

According to UK law, all mattresses must meet strict fire safety standards and be fire-retardant. We use natural graphite, a mineral-derived fire barrier, as the only additive in our latex mattresses and toppers instead of toxic chemicals. The CertiPUR-US® approved reflex foam is made without harmful substances such as heavy metals, PBDEs, or formaldehyde. The mattress is tested to BS7177 standards for low-hazard domestic use and carries a blue fire safety label, confirming it is safe for everyday home use, including for babies.

Are adhesives used to bond layers in the Dunlop 500 Latex Mattress?

Yes, the layers of the Dunlop 500 Latex Mattress are securely bonded using a water-based natural latex adhesive, SIMALFA® 325, which is solvent and chemical-free. The adhesive has Green Guard Gold Certification, complies with environmental regulations, and is proven to be completely harmless. SIMALFA® 325 contains no animal-derived substances, making it vegan-friendly.

What are the features of a Tencel™ Purotex® mattress cover?

Who needs to choose a FIRM mattress?

A firm mattress is ideal for people who need strong, consistent support to maintain proper spinal alignment and reduce pressure on the lower back and hips. It is especially suitable for:

  • People with Scoliosis: Helps support the natural curve of the spine, reducing strain and discomfort caused by spinal misalignment.
  • Those Needing Enhanced Spinal Stability: Provides a stable sleeping surface that helps prevent the spine from sinking into unhealthy positions overnight.
  • Heavier Individuals (Over 14 st / 90 kg): Offers denser support to minimise sagging and maintain proper posture.
  • Front and Back Sleepers: Keeps the spine in a healthy, neutral position, which is especially important for those with spinal curvature.
  • Sleepers Seeking Consistent Support: Reduces pressure points and promotes balanced weight distribution across the body.
  • Influenced by Bed Base Type: Mattress firmness can vary depending on the base, firm on solid-top divans and softer on sprung slatted bases.

Choosing a firm mattress depends on personal comfort, body weight, sleeping position, and support needs, helping ensure long-term comfort and healthy sleep posture.

What type of bed base is recommended for the Dunlop 500 Latex Mattress, and is it compatible with adjustable beds?

The Dunlop 500 Latex Mattress is suitable for solid divans, sprung divans, slatted bases, and sprung slatted bases, and is fully compatible with adjustable beds.

For proper support, the gaps between slats must be between 2 and 3 inches (5 cm to 7.5 cm). Wider gaps may damage the mattress and invalidate your guarantee. The mattress should not be placed directly on the floor, as poor ventilation can lead to moisture build-up, mould, and mildew.

Latex Sense reserves the right to refuse warranty claims if damage results from inadequate support, excessive slat gaps, second-hand bed bases, or unsanitary conditions.

How long does the Dunlop 500 Latex Mattress last?

The Dunlop 500 Latex Mattress is designed for durability and long-lasting comfort. Natural latex is highly elastic, allowing it to bounce back to its original shape and maintain consistent support over time. Combined with a resilient high-density foam core, the mattress typically lasts between 5 and 10 years with proper care and a suitable bed base.

Is the Dunlop 500 Latex Mattress environmentally friendly?

Yes, the Dunlop 500 Latex Mattress is made using sustainable construction techniques and eco-friendly materials, making it an environmentally responsible choice. Unlike memory foam, it is designed with minimal environmental impact and fewer harmful chemicals. This makes it a green, sustainable option that supports both comfort and long-term environmental care.

How long is the break-in period for the Dunlop 500 Latex Mattress?

All latex mattresses, including the Dunlop 500 Latex Mattress, have a break-in period of approximately 30 days. This allows your body time to adjust and properly assess the mattress’s comfort and support. The exact time may vary based on your previous mattress and sleeping habits, so we recommend waiting at least 30 days before considering an exchange.

Does the Dunlop 500 Latex Mattress come with a home trial, and how does the exchange policy work?

Every new mattress feels different at first, and your body needs time to adjust. It is normal for the Dunlop 500 Latex Mattress to feel unusual during the early weeks, but comfort and support improve as your body adapts.

That is why we offer a free home trial with free exchanges and returns for UK mainland customers.
