Care instructions

Status of the mattress upon delivery

The Dunlop 800 Latex Mattress is vacuum-packed and rolled. This ensures mattress hygiene, quality in transit, and improved delivery timeframes. Your mattress was carefully vacuum-packed on the day it was shipped to you. We use one of the newest and most innovative packing technologies in the bedding industry; it neither damages nor impairs the performance of the mattress.

Storing your mattress and how to handle it

Please be kindly advised that we do not recommend storing the mattress in a rolled and vacuumed state for more than 4 weeks, as this will damage the product. Take the mattress out of the box and put it on the bed. Carefully cut the tape that holds the roll together and unroll the mattress while it is in its polythene bag. Please take extreme care so as not to damage your item. It will still be compressed, and you need to cut the bag closer to the heat seal. Take extra care, as the tool you use can damage the cover.

Sleeping on the mattress

The mattress recovers to its full shape and size after unpacking; please allow up to 24 hours for the optimal balance to be reached. However, since it is not a mandatory requirement, you can begin using the mattress right away.

Identifying the top side of your mattress

The side with the big product sticker attached to the cover is the 8cm latex top side, the side you sleep on. The Dunlop 800 Latex Mattress is zoned, which are symmetrically positioned along the length; there is no head or foot end. You can position the mattress either way and still experience the benefits of the zones.

Moving and manoeuvring your mattress

Take extreme care while moving the mattress, as the foam fillings can tear if grabbed or pulled on corners or edges. You can rotate the mattress from head to foot once every month; this will ensure even wear and tear and prolong its lifespan.

Cleaning your mattress

The mattress covers are NOT washable. The mattress must be kept dry; therefore, we strongly advise using a good-quality waterproof mattress protector at all times. The zip on the cover is solely used during production to easily place the cover on the mattress. We do not recommend removing and washing the cover; if you do, it is at your own risk, and we will not be held liable for any damage or shrinkage resulting from the washing of the cover. The mattress cover can be cautiously vacuumed, including the underside.

In the event that you spill liquid on your mattress and it gets wet, spot clean any stains with a damp cloth, carefully unzip and remove the top panel of the cover to naturally dry until the liquid is evaporated, and then air the mattress core until it is fully dry. The mattress can then be used again. Never use detergents or chemical cleaners on your mattress. This can adversely affect not only the fabrics but also the fillings inside.

Bed-base requirement

The mattress can be used on any bed base—solid top divan, sprung edge divan, solid slatted, or sprung slatted base. The gaps across the slats should be between 2 and 3 inches wide (5 cm to 7.5 cm). Using the mattress with a wider gap could cause damage and invalidate your guarantee. Do not use the mattress on the floor; the lack of ventilation may lead to mould and mildew buildup and invalidate your guarantee.

Latex Sense reserves the right to refuse warranty repair or replacement if a new mattress becomes damaged due to being used on a bed base with inadequate slat gaps, a second-hand bed foundation with insufficient support, or if it is in an unsanitary condition.

Mattress care

Do not let children jump on the mattress; it may damage it and invalidate your guarantee. The mattress is designed for sleeping on; therefore, prolonged sitting on the edge can cause damage and place undue stress on this area of the mattress. The mattress is one-sided; you can rotate it from head to foot once every month, which will ensure even wear and tear and prolong its lifespan. You can air the mattress every time you change your bed linen to keep it fresh and dry.

Please keep packaging away from children. Please recycle or dispose of the packaging.

What is Dunlop Latex, and how is it made?

Dunlop is the original manufacturing process for latex foams. The milk derived from the sap of the rubber tree is vulcanised and baked into foam. It’s naturally obtained from a sustainable source, and it’s more durable than alternatives, leading to a lesser long-term impact on the environment. The process was first invented in 1929, and the method has not changed significantly since then. This technique yields a dense foam that may be customised to a variety of firmness levels. 100% Natural Dunlop Latex strikes a perfect mix of divine comfort and superb resistance while offering excellent value for money.

What is Reflex Foam?

The reflex foam we use is high-density Polyurethane Foam, which is the industry's leading filler free foam range, it offers superior durability, recovery, and service life.

What is the benefit of a mattress with a combination of 100% Natural Dunlop Latex and Polyurethane Foam?

A mattress with a 100% Dunlop latex top and a polyurethane foam base combines the great comfort of natural latex with the sturdy support of high-density polyurethane foam. The mattress offers exceptional value for money.

Natural Material: 100% natural Dunlop latex is sourced from the sap of rubber trees, making it an environmentally green and sustainable material.

Comfort and Support: 100% natural Dunlop latex is known for its responsive and supportive properties. It conforms to your body shape, providing pressure relief where needed.

Breathability: Latex is a naturally highly breathable material, allowing for good air circulation. This can help regulate temperature and prevent overheating during sleep.

Durability: Latex is generally durable and resilient, with a longer lifespan compared to some other mattress materials.

Polyurethane High-Density Foam (Reflex Foam): provides an extremely sturdy, firm base for the mattress. It is intended to provide rigidity and prevent sinking.

Affordability: Polyurethane foam tends to be less costly than natural latex or other premium materials, making the mattress more affordable and budget-friendly.

Longevity: High-density polyurethane foam has been praised for its resilience, which contributes to the mattress's overall lifespan.

Motion Isolation: Latex and polyurethane incorporation have good motion isolation qualities, which indicates disturbances on one side of the bed are less likely to be felt on the opposite side.

Lightweight: When compared to other mattress materials, polyurethane foam is quite lightweight, making it easier to handle and move.

Polyurethane foam is adjustable since it can be produced with a variety of densities and firmness levels, allowing for modification according to specific comfort and support requirements. Given its flexibility, it is a common material for mattress building.

What are the benefits of Tencel cover?

The mattress cover is made of Tencel fabric, which is a natural fibre extracted from wood pulp. ActiproTM technology is used in the fabric to provide healthful protection against allergens, dust mites, and odours, which helps to maintain a clean, fresh, and healthy sleep environment. Actipro is an anti-bacterial treatment applied to the Tencel fabric that uses active probiotics. Actipro probiotic finish is a safe and effective natural solution for combating allergens without destroying the positive microorganisms. During manufacture, the Actipro microflora is attached to the cover fabric using natural clay technology. Actipro offers natural protection against house dust mites by neutralising the allergens.

Is the mattress entirely chemical free?

The Dunlop 800 Latex Mattress does not contain any chemicals or harmful substances; it is halogen, metal, and chemical-free.

  • We use only 100% Natural Dunlop Latex, certified to the Euro-Latex® Eco Standard and  Oeko-Tex® Standard 100
  • The reflex foam is a high-density Polyurethane Foam, which is the industry's leading filler-free foam range and complies with the requirements of CertiPUR Health, Safety, and Environmental standards

  • The textiles in the Tencel Cover are certified to the Oeko-Tex® Standard 100

The certification affirms that the mattress is safe and does not pose a risk to the sleeper.

Is the mattress suitable for customers with allergies or sensitivities?

During manufacturing, latex is vulcanised at a temperature of more than 110 degrees for about 45 minutes, and this process kills all potential allergens. Latex and polyurethane foam are resistant to dust mites, which makes them a great alternative for those who suffer from allergies or asthma.

Is the mattress suitable restless sleepers?

You will need a mattress that is both cosy and firm enough to help you fall asleep quickly. A hybrid type, such as the Dunlop 800 Latex Mattress, will provide the perfect level of pressure alleviation and support that the majority of restless sleepers require. When you turn, the movements are not distributed to the partner's side, meaning couples are not disturbed while sleeping.

What fire retardant methods do you use to comply with UK Fire regulations?

According to UK law, all mattresses must comply with certain fire safety standards. It is a legal requirement for all mattresses to be made fire-retardant. We choose to employ natural graphite instead of toxic chemicals. We use natural graphite, a mineral derived from Mother Nature, as the only natural fire-retardant additive in the mattress. The graphite has fire-retardant properties, and when mixed with latex, it acts as a fire barrier.

Do you use any adhesives to bond different layers in the mattress?

We use water-based natural latex glue, Simalfa 325, which is solvent and chemical free. The adhesive has Green Guard Gold Certification, and conforms to the many changing environmental regulations, proven to be completely harmless. The adhesive SIMALFA® 325 does not contain any substances or raw materials from animal products; therefore, it is vegan.

Who needs to choose a MEDIUM-FIRM mattress?

Sciatica: For people with sciatic nerve pain that migrates from the low back to the back of the thigh and calf, a deep, medium-firm latex or hybrid mattress is recommended. It will help to promote and maintain optimum spine alignment and alleviate pressure on the lower back and hips.

  • Medium-Firm comfort levels are recommended for heavier people, as they need denser support to keep their spines aligned or people who prefer a firmer feel on the surface
  • Front and back sleepers find firmer mattresses more comfortable as they keep the back and spine in the correct position during sleep

The bed base is very important; the same mattress will feel firmer on a solid top divan and softer on a sprung slatted base, for example.

What is the best bed base to use in conjunction with the mattress? Is it compatible with Adjustable beds?

The mattress can be used with any durable and high-quality bed platform that provides adequate support, such as a solid top divan, a sprung edge divan, a slatted base, or a sprung slatted base. The mattress is compatible with Adjustable beds. However, it is essential to ensure that the gaps across the slats measure between 2 and 3 inches wide (5cm to 7.5cm). Using the mattress on a bed with a greater gap could cause damage and invalidate your guarantee. Also, please do not use the mattress on the floor, as the lack of ventilation may lead to mould and mildew buildup, which will revoke your guarantee.

Latex Sense reserves the right to refuse warranty repair or replacement if a new mattress becomes damaged due to being used on a bed base with inadequate slat gaps, a second-hand bed foundation with insufficient support, or if it is in an unsanitary condition.

Is the mattress durable?

Latex is a natural material with high elasticity and is also extremely durable. It always bounces back to its initial size and shape after long-lasting deformations and keeps a consistent feel throughout its life. High-density polyurethane foam has been praised for its resilience, which contributes to the mattress's overall lifespan.

How long does the mattress break-in period last?

All latex mattresses have a break-in period, which is usually 30 days. Thus, many companies offer in-home sleep trials, which are intended to give customers the opportunity to adjust and fully evaluate the properties of their mattresses. The exact amount of time it takes to adapt to and get used to a new mattress depends on the type of mattress and how different your new mattress is from your old one. As the break-in period is significantly important, we strongly encourage customers to refrain from exchanging their mattresses before the initial 30 days are over.

Does the mattress come with a home trial and how does the exchange policy work?

Every new mattress feels different, and your body needs some time to adjust and get used to the new feel. It is normal for the mattress to feel a bit strange and not as comfortable in the beginning, but the longer you sleep on it, the better you will experience its benefits.

That is why we offer a free home trial with free exchanges and free returns for UK mainland customers.

  • The initial home trial period is 50 days, counting from the same day the mattress is delivered to you
  • If you find the mattress uncomfortable, we can exchange it with something more suitable, or you can return it straightaway
  • If you decide to exercise your right to exchange, you can try the replacement mattress for another 50 days and still return it for a full refund if it proves unsatisfactory
How long is the mattress guarantee and what does it cover?

The Dunlop 800 Latex Mattress comes with a 5-year manufacturer's guarantee against faults in materials and poor workmanship (including sagging). The warranty covers any visible indentations more than 2cm deep.

  • We require a copy of the original sales receipt as proof of your purchase
  • Our product guarantee covers repair or replacement of the original mattress; i.e., if the product is declared faulty, we will not issue a refund but will repair or replace the product accordingly
  • Following a replacement or repair, the guarantee will remain valid from the date of the original purchase
  • The guarantee is valid from the date of the original purchase, is for your benefit as the original purchaser only, and is not transferable to any other person
  • If you sell or transfer your product, the subsequent owner accepts the product “as is” and has no rights to claim under the guarantee

A tear in the fabric, which can be caused by accidental damage such as the fabric catching some sharp object, will not invoke the warranty as this is not a manufacturing fault or defect and therefore is not covered by the guarantee.

Latex Sense reserves the right to refuse warranty repair or replacement if a new mattress becomes damaged due to being used on a bed base with inadequate slat gaps, a second-hand bed foundation with insufficient support, or if it is in an unsanitary condition.

Is the mattress sustainable and eco-friendly?

Sustainable construction techniques and materials are used to build the entire mattress. You may sleep soundly knowing that our mattresses are environmentally friendly. In addition, polyurethane foams are affordable and viable materials. They preserve the Earth’s natural resources by reducing the need for energy. We are committed to creating mattresses without memory foam's adverse environmental impacts
